Building positive habits

This week I have been working on building a daily writing and reading habit.

It’s odd to have to work on this when it once came so easily to me, used to be you’d never see me without a book in my hands, even while walking down the street sometimes. I’d have to keep looking up so I wouldn’t walk into somebody, or a lamppost or a bin or something.

But it’s been over a decade since I stopped, and I’m very out of practice. I blame education and social media for my declining interest in reading and writing for pleasure, and my addiction to doomscrolling. I want to get back into a good habit of creating, and enjoying books again.

I’m currently reading Magician by Raymond E. Feist and trying to compete my next assessment (its due next week, and I have shifts at work which basically means I only have 2 days left to get it done in).

I finally received my feedback from my tutor from my first assessment though, which was massively helpful, and I can incorporate that for this assessment I’m working on now, which is great. I’m quite enjoying exploring Mary Wollstonecraft’s A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, and a piece of music by Mozart (I’m learning a lot about classical music actually).

Other than that, I’ve actually manged to get outside and enjoy a bit of the sun we’ve been having over Easter, which has done wonders for my Vitamin D deficiency (I’m on tablets, as recommended by the doctor, but I could really use a bit of the real thing).

Anyway, this is a bit of a rushed blog post because I haven’t manged to actually finish anything in time.

I have a lot of little ideas and part-started, or part-planned pieces of writing to work on in the future that I’m quite excited about though. Podcast scripts, literary journalism articles, life writing pieces, premises for stories…

Getting really into it.

Bye until next week😊

Life Begins At 30

Our parents once told us that our youth was going to be the best time of our lives. This turned out to be irresponsibly untrue. We then spent years getting conditioned into believing that our 20s was
